What is a Bush Cord?
A bush cord is a full measure of firewood commonly used in Ontario and across Canada. It equals 128 cubic feet of stacked wood, which is typically arranged as a stack 4 feet high × 4 feet wide × 8 feet long.
Because wood pieces are irregular, the actual number of logs can vary depending on how they’re cut and stacked. A bush cord is considered the standard unit for buying and selling firewood.
What is a face cord?
A face cord is a common way firewood is sold in Ontario. It equals a stack of wood that measures 4 feet high × 8 feet long × 16 inches deep.
Because a face cord is only one row of 16-inch logs, it works out to be about one-third of a full bush cord.
Durham Firewood – Frequently Asked Questions
1. What types of firewood do you sell?
We supply seasoned hardwoods including maple and ash. Our wood is cut, split, and ready to burn, perfect for fireplaces, wood stoves, and outdoor fire pits. Firewood is cut to roughly 16 inch lengths (some variation may occur).
2. Is your firewood seasoned?
Yes. All of our hardwood is properly seasoned to ensure it lights easily, burns hot, and produces less smoke in your home or cottage.
3. What payment methods do you accept?
We accept Credit Cards, Apple Pay, Cash on Delivery (COD), and E-Transfer (info@durhamfirewood.ca).
Important: If you are signed in under your Shop Account, the checkout will default to Credit Card. To use Apple Pay, COD, or E-Transfer, please checkout as a guest.
4. Do you offer firewood delivery?
Absolutely. We provide fast, reliable delivery across Durham Region, Toronto, Markham, and many other locations. To qualify for delivery, orders need to meet a minimum of $180 (the cost of one face cord). Enter your postal code at checkout to see your exact delivery cost. Smaller orders, such as a few bags, unfortunately aren’t practical for delivery, but if you’re stocking up, we’ll be happy to bring it right to your driveway. Delivery fees range from $40 to $150, depending on your location and drive time. Remember, we’re pulling up in a dump truck — it takes a lot of truck to bring you a lot of wood!
5. How much firewood should I order?
Most households order between 1–3 cords per season, depending on how often they use their fireplace or stove. Contact us, and we’ll help you estimate the right amount for your needs.
6. Can I pick up firewood instead of delivery?
Yes! You’re welcome to pick up firewood at our Durham yard. Please contact us ahead so we can prepare your order. Typically most in-stock orders are available for pick up within 1–2 days.
7. Do you offer custom firewood sizes?
Yes, we can split to custom sizes but only during the winter season. Contact us so we can work with you while we’re actively splitting wood.
8. What’s the best way to store firewood?
Stack firewood off the ground, covered on top, and with open sides for airflow. This keeps the wood dry and ready to burn.
