What is a Bush Cord?
A bush cord is a full measure of firewood commonly used in Ontario and across Canada. It equals 128 cubic feet of stacked wood, which is typically arranged as a stack 4 feet high × 4 feet wide × 8 feet long.
Because wood pieces are irregular, the actual number of logs can vary depending on how they’re cut and stacked. A bush cord is considered the standard unit for buying and selling firewood.
What is a face cord?
A face cord is a common way firewood is sold in Ontario. It equals a single row of firewood stacked 4 feet high × 8 feet long, with the depth determined by the length of the logs.
With 16-inch firewood, a face cord is about one-third of a full bush cord. With 12-inch firewood, a face cord is about one-quarter of a full bush cord.

What types of firewood do you sell?
We supply a seasoned hardwood blend, predominantly maple and ash.
Standard firewood orders are sold as a hardwood blend and individual species cannot be selected.
If you prefer a particular species or type of firewood, contact us. With advance notice, we may be able to accommodate special requests during a future winter splitting season.
Our wood is cut, split, and ready to burn, making it well suited for fireplaces, wood stoves, and outdoor fire pits. Firewood is cut to roughly 12 or 16 inch lengths (some variation may occur).
Is your firewood seasoned and ready to burn?
Yes. Our hardwood is seasoned and ready to burn. Properly seasoned firewood lights more easily, burns hotter, and produces less smoke than freshly cut wood.
Firewood is a natural product stored outdoors, so moisture can vary slightly between individual pieces and with weather conditions.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept Credit Cards, Apple Pay, Cash on Delivery (COD), and E-Transfer at info@durhamfirewood.ca.
Important: If you are signed in under your Shop Account, checkout will default to Credit Card. To use Apple Pay, COD, or E-Transfer, please checkout as a guest.
Do you offer firewood delivery?
Absolutely. We provide firewood delivery across Durham Region, Toronto, Markham, and many other locations.
To qualify for delivery, orders need to meet a minimum of $100, which is the cost of a half face cord. Enter your postal code at checkout to see the delivery charge for your location.
Smaller orders, such as only a few bags, are generally not practical for delivery. Delivery fees start at $50 and up, depending on your location and drive time.

How is firewood delivered?
Half face cord and face cord orders are typically delivered by pickup truck.
Larger bulk orders require a dump truck and are unloaded in an accessible area of your driveway or property.
Firewood is dumped loose and is not stacked as part of standard delivery. Stacking service may be available for an additional charge. Please contact us to inquire about availability and pricing.
Please make sure there is adequate room and clear access for the delivery vehicle. If you are unsure whether your driveway or delivery area is suitable, please contact us before ordering.
How does delivery work for bush cord orders?
One bush cord requires one dedicated dump-truck delivery. For this reason, delivery is charged at the regular delivery rate per bush cord.
An order of two bush cords requires two separate deliveries and two delivery charges, even when both bush cords are being delivered to the same address.
Remember, we’re pulling up in a dump truck — it takes a lot of truck to bring you a lot of wood!
What is the difference between a face cord and a bush cord?
A face cord is typically a stack of firewood measuring approximately 4 feet high by 8 feet long. The depth of the stack depends on the length of the firewood pieces. Our firewood is generally cut to approximately 12 or 16 inches.
A half face cord is half the amount of a face cord.
A bush cord, also commonly called a full cord, measures 4 feet high by 4 feet deep by 8 feet long when stacked. This is the equivalent of 3 face cords of 16" firewood or 4 face cords of 12" firewood.
How much firewood should I order?
Most households order between 1–3 face cords (3 face cords = 1 bush cord for 16" firewood) per season, depending on how often they use their fireplace or wood stove.

Can I pick up firewood instead of delivery?
Yes. You’re welcome to pick up firewood at our Durham yard. Please arrange your pickup before heading over so we can prepare your order.
Typically, most in-stock orders are available for pickup within a few days.
Do you offer custom firewood sizes?
Yes. We can split firewood to custom sizes, but custom splitting is available only during the winter season while we are actively processing wood.

What’s the best way to store firewood?
Stack firewood off the ground, cover the top, and leave the sides open for airflow. This helps keep the wood dry while allowing moisture to escape.
Where do you deliver firewood?
We deliver firewood throughout Durham Region and to many surrounding communities, including areas of Toronto and Markham.

Do you sell smaller quantities or bagged firewood?
Yes. In addition to bulk firewood, we carry smaller bagged and specialty wood products for customers who do not need a half face cord or larger order.
We also carry cedar kindling, specialty hardwood firewood, and premium applewood cooking wood.
Do you sell wood for pizza ovens, smokers, and outdoor cooking?
Yes. We carry specialty wood specifically suited to wood-fired cooking and smaller fireboxes.
Our specialty hardwood firewood is cut into smaller, manageable pieces for pizza ovens, wood-fired cooking, saunas, and other specialty fires.
We also carry premium applewood cooking wood , which produces a mild, slightly sweet smoke for grilling, smoking, and live-fire cooking.
